9th Grade Weight Room

Ryan Johnson, Physical Education Teacher at Wayzata High School; $29,000

In Their Own Words

We need a fitness center that is fully equipped to provide students with various opportunities throughout the school year. During the school day, the weight room is full and only upperclassmen students are able to learn and participate in how to properly use a weight room space. From a school day perspective, students could benefit immensely from having a fully furnished fitness center in order to continue to work towards our students learning how to be healthy and active individuals when they leave our district. Currently our 9th grade students do not get to fully participate in these skills as we do not have the equipment. We have the space, just not the equipment. In regards to before and after school, athletics would greatly benefit from this space as well. Our weight room is a beautiful space, however, as we continue to grow, we simply do not have enough room for everyone. We have to turn away off season sports for training because we do not have the space. With this new fitness center lab, we would be able to accommodate all athletes. We would also be able to accommodate non-athletes who want to use our spaces before and after school. - Ryan Johnson
