In Their Own Words

The Wayzata Unified Champion School program will create a vibrant learning environment where general education and special education students learn and thrive together, building lasting relationships and learning to embrace the unique qualities of each and every student. The Wayzata Unified School Champion program is not just about academic excellence; it's about empowering every student to reach their full potential within a compassionate, inclusive, and thriving learning community. We invite you to partner with us in making this bold vision a reality. Together, let's weave a tapestry of excellence where Each and Every student shines brightly.

The timeline of this project will be over the 24-25 and 25-26 school years. Unified Curriculum: We will develop a rigorous and adaptable curriculum that caters to the individual needs and learning styles of all students, ensuring accessibility and engagement.

Collaborative Learning: The recently created Unified District Committee is striving to create meaningful opportunities for all students to learn about each other, develop friendships, and work toward a common goal. For students with disabilities, engaging with their fellow classmates expands their social networks, and creates a sense of belonging outside of their usual world. For students who may have limited experience working with diverse learners, participation in Unified programming helps them develop leadership skills, learn about the challenges of navigating the world with a disability, exhibit empathy and humility, and develop meaningful friendships and memories.

Positive School Climate: We cultivate a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves.

Status: funded in May 2024, program is in the process of implementation.
