Compass Program Partnership

The Wayzata Education Fund partners with the Wayzata High School Compass Program to provide a profession based learning experience.

Compass Program

Compass is a profession based learning program for career focused juniors and seniors at Wayzata High School. Students who enroll in the program earn high school and college credit while exploring career paths and working side-by-side with professionals in the workplace. Courses are designed and taught in collaboration with business leaders in our community and faculty from North Hennepin and Normandale Community Colleges.

Our Partnership

WEF partners with Compass each semester to provide professional learning experiences. Read more about our project work below.

Spring 2024

We partnered with three seniors from the Business Development Compass Program to run our social media, build community partnerships and enhance our Highlight a Hero fundraiser. This group brought WEF to the next level, especially at Wayzata High School. They launched a student specific version of Highlight a Hero and reimagined how we award grants to teachers. They elevated our social media and print materials. This group is going places - thank you Ella, Sydney and Paige!

“Throughout this project we were able to assist with so many fun tasks. Such as: creating marketing materials to advertise towards our community and personally delivering Highlight a Hero gifts and seeing recipient's faces light up! This experience was an amazing opportunity that came with lots of learning, hard work, and smiles! I am forever grateful to the Wayzata Compass program and the Wayzata Education Fund for this partnership!”

Fall 2023

We partnered with four juniors from Graphic Communications to build out marketing materials, run our social media, and support the winter 2023 Highlight a Hero! Thank you Andrew, Rowan, Julia, and Nora!

Spring 2023

We partnered with three seniors to reimagine and project manage our Thank a Teacher program. They were to make the program more inclusive, catchy, and easy to implement before the launch of the spring cycle.

The result? Highlight a Hero was born. New name, new logo, new certificates. Thank you Lauren, Liv and Adi!

Gleason Lake Elementary, West Middle

“I loved that through COMPASS and our charter project with WEF I was able to learn more about both the education field and the business world. I absolutely loved meeting and working with all of the different people that play such an important role in WEF, from parents to former educators. I am majoring in Elementary Education and hope to come back to Wayzata and teach in the Wayzata School District some day in the future!”
